According to reports in Taiwan, HTC are to unveil three tablet devices in 2011. The first tablet is set to be called ‘Flyer’ and is due to be released in the first half of 2011.

Digitimes have heard from handset component suppliers that the tablet will be available in the US from March 2011. Digitimes also confirmed the design of the tablet will be based around the popular HTC Desire.

The tablet is supposed to run Android 2.3 Gingerbread rather than 3.0 Honeycomb. Reasons behind this are to ‘capitalize on the first mover advantage’ against competitors BlackBerry and Motorola but will get the 3.0 Honeycomb upgrade later on.It’s even likely for HTC to partner with a carrier in the US – I would put my money on Verizon because of their 4G capabilities.

HTC are expected to show off these tablets at the forthcoming ‘Mobile World Congress’ event that is in Barcelona on the 14th February 2011.

Could this be perfect competition for iOS and Windows 7 for tablets? Is it just a bit too late for HTC to dip into the tablet market with something running 2.3 Gingerbread? Whatever you think, pop a comment or give us a tweet.
