At SpiderGroup we love helping people to develop and grow which is why we regularly offer work experience placements to young people from the local area. By giving them a chance to find out what we’re all about, whether their interest is in technology, design, marketing or administration, we hope to give young people an idea of what it’s like working in a fast-paced dynamic company and industry.
This week, we’ve been joined by Miaya who’s been such a pleasure to work with and an absolute credit to John Cabot Academy. Miaya has been enthusiastic, extremely helpful and a fast learner and we have no doubt she will be very successful in her future career. Here’s what Miaya had to say about her week working with SpiderGroup…
My name is Miaya and I’m a 15 year old student who currently attends John Cabot Academy in Kingswood. I came to SpiderGroup for a week of work experience to see what working in the real world is actually like and to also get an insight into different jobs that I may wish to pursue in the near future.
By doing my work experience here at SpiderGroup, it has helped me think about what I want to do in the future and what it would be like working in an office environment. I really enjoyed meeting such friendly people who welcomed me into their workplace so kindly and answered my questions about their jobs. Everyone was so keen to help and teach me more about their role within SpiderGroup and also make me feel at ease being around people I’ve never met before.
I wasn’t too sure what it was going to be like before I started and was nervous I wouldn’t be able to do anything to help, but I was soon given tasks to help around the workplace and keep me on my feet. I’m always up for a challenge and learning about things that at first I wasn’t familiar with was definitely quite challenging. However, I soon got the hang of things and managed to do most tasks successfully!
What I’ve learned…
I have learned many things by being here on work experience such as invoicing, how to fill in information on charts accordingly, entering accounting data correctly and many more technical things I never thought I’d be able to do. It was a really satisfying feeling when I completed something that was beyond what I thought I was capable of, as some things can appear to be quite tricky but actually aren’t too difficult at all.
SpiderGroup has given me the opportunity to learn more about the different fields and roles within a company and has helped me think about which career path I want to go down in the future (which happens to be working in an office!). Furthermore, I liked working with people of varied ages and being around lots of hard-workers who made me feel like a member of the team.
