The Motorola XOOM is going to the first Motorola Android based tablet which will be exclusively available on the Verizon network in the US.
Why will the XOOM be a popular choice for Android lovers?
As a tablet owner myself, I decided to buy a Samsung Galaxy Tablet but certainly found that it fell down with its interface and user experience – it reminded me of a larger version of the Galaxy smart phone. With Android 2.3 Gingerbread and 2.2 Froyo currently around on the tablet market, the release of Android 3.0 is set to boost sales of Google’s Android operating system.
For me, Honeycomb will make my tablet fifty times better but what I like the most is that Google say that 3.0 Honeycomb has been designed from the ‘ground up’ for tablets.
The Motorola XOOM addresses most of these issues Galaxy owners are having, so Motorola are going to be shipping their flagship tablet with Honeycomb allowing it to work straight out of the box.
What this means is that the tablet will be easier to use and will allow ‘tablet-aware programs’ to do more with the device.
The XOOM has a large 10.1” 1280×800 pixel display, dual-core 1GHz processor for power when you need it when multi-tasking, 5-megapixel camera on the back of the tablet, 2-megapixel camera on the front which is going to be great for applications like Skype.
The tablet supports CDMA/EVDO device with full Wi-Fi support – this is great for the US which is rolling out 4G networks but bad news for us in the UK. Over in the UK, we will have to probably wait another Quarter for Motorola to develop a fully functional EU compatible version of the tablet.
This is still to be confirmed, Motorola say that the XOOM will be available on Verizon (US mobile network) in Q1 for the US.
